Jean-Marc Degraeve is a French chess Grandmaster (GM). Born on July 26, 1971, his highest ranking was the 97th best player worldwide in October 1999. He has since been awarded the title of Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE)'s International Master (IM) in 1991 and Grandmaster in 1998.
Degraeve has claimed multiple victories in the French Championship. In 1994, he tied for first place but lost in the playoffs. In 1997, he outright won the Championship and in 2005, he shared first place with seven players.
Degraeve is also well-known for his other achievements. In 1993, he tied for first (2nd on countback) in the World Junior Chess Championship. In 1998, he won the Open International Bavarian Championship in Bad Wiessee, and in 2007, he tied for first in the Parsvnath Open in New Delhi.
In the Chess Olympiads, Degraeve represented France three times (in 1998, 2000 and 2002). He was also a part of the French team in the European Team Chess Championships in 1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2007.
