Péter Dely is a Hungarian chess Grandmaster, chess writer and trainer, born on 6 September 1955. He was awarded the International Master (IM) title in 1976 and the Grandmaster (GM) title in 1983. He has won the Hungarian Chess Championship in 1979 and played for Hungary in the Chess Olympiads of 1978 and 1980. In 1982, He won the Reggio Emilia tournament and in 1991 he won the Munich Zonal tournament.
Dely has made significant contributions in the chess scene as a writer and editor as well. He has edited a number of chess books and written a well-known book on the Caro-Kann Defence, which was published in 1981. In addition, Dely also contributed considerably to Hungarian Chess Magazine 'Magyar Sakkelet'.
As a trainer, Dely has trained players such as International Master Attila Schneider, Grandmaster Tamás Veszprémi, and International Master Péter Varga. His training focused heavily on the understanding of pawn structures and the importance of the endgame.
