Leinier Domínguez Pérez is a Cuban-American chess Grandmaster. Born on September 23, 1983, in Havana, Cuba, he is the top-rated player in both Cuba and the United States. He transferred federations to the United States in December 2018.
Domínguez has also competed in team events. He represented Cuba at ten Chess Olympiads (2002–2016), contributing to the team's fourth-place finish in 2002 and bronze medal in 2012. After switching to the United States Chess Federation, he was part of the American team that won the silver medal at the World Team Chess Championship in 2019.
In terms of chess style, Domínguez is known for his deep calculations and tactical acumen, coupled with a prudent approach that makes him a challenging player. He uses a variety of strategies in the opening and favors the use of the Caro-Kann Defence against e4 and the Grunfeld Defence as black against d4.
