Aleksey Dreev is a Russian chess Grandmaster who has achieved significant recognition in the world of chess. Born on January 30, 1969 in Moscow, he was awarded the Grandmaster title in 1989.


Dreev has had a successful chess career, with numerous wins in important tournaments. He won the World Youth Chess Championship in 1983 and 1984. In 1990, he won the USSR Chess Championship, and in 1991, he was the winner of the super-tournament in Wijk aan Zee. Dreev has won the Russian Championship twice (in 2004 and 2007). He represented Russia three times in Chess Olympiads (1992, 1994, 1996), and each time the Russian team won gold.



Outside of his noteworthy performances on the international circuit, Dreev is also an author. He has written several books on chess, notably "The Moscow and Anti-Moscow Variations: An Insider's View," and "My One Hundred Best Games."


Dreev has also coached renowned chess players, including Women's World Champion Antoaneta Stefanova and World Chess Champion Viswanathan Anand.


Despite not having won the World Chess Championship, Dreev's consistent performances in various major tournaments, as well as his contribution as an author and coach, have solidified his standing as a leading figure in the international chess arena.
