Alexander Sergeyevich Galkin (born 1 May 1979) is a Russian chess Grandmaster most known for winning the World Junior Chess Championship in 1999. Following this victory, he was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE (Fédération Internationale des Échecs), the international chess federation.
Galkin has since competed in a number of prominent chess tournaments. These include the Russian Chess Championship and several European Championships. In 2007, he scored 7 out of 11 in the European Individual Chess Championship, placing 13th and qualifying for the 2007 Chess World Cup.
In addition to his playing career, Galkin has also worked as a chess coach. He has been the coach of Sasikiran Krishnan, the Indian chess grandmaster and has participated in joint training sessions with renowned grandmasters like Vladimir Kramnik.
Galkin earned a degree in Jurisprudence from Russian State Social University and is based in Moscow.
