Kiril Georgiev is a Bulgarian chess Grandmaster. He was born on November 28, 1965 in Petrich, Bulgaria. Georgiev achieved the rank of grandmaster in 1985. He was the Bulgarian champion in 1984, 1986, and 1989. In 1988, he won the World Junior Chess Championship, a tournament for players under the age of 20. Georgiev went on to win a number of international competitions.
In 1993, he tied for first place in the Zonal tournament in Strumica, qualifying for the Interzonal. He has also participated in four Men's Chess Olympiads, in 1986, 1988, 1992, and 1994, winning a total of two silver medals. In 2009, in the Bulgarian championship, Georgiev constructed possibly the longest game in top-level chess, which consisted of 269 moves and ended in a draw.
Georgiev is also a three-time champion at World Chess Solving Championship (2004, 2011, and 2015). He set a world record for simultaneous chess games played, at 360 games in over 14 hours, completing 88% of the games with the result of 284 wins, 70 draws, and 6 losses.
