Alik Gershon is an Israeli chess Grandmaster and former World Under-16 Champion. He won the World Youth Chess Championship in 1994 when he was 14 years old and surprisingly quit competing shortly after that. After finishing high school, he returned to chess and earned his Grandmaster title in 2000.
In 2010, Gershon set a new world simultaneous chess record in Tel Aviv, Israel where he confronted 523 players, beating the previous record set by Grandmaster Morteza Mahjoob in Iran in 2009. The record was later broken by FIDE Master Ehsan Ghaem Maghami from Iran in 2011. Gershon retained a win rate of 86% during the games he played from 29-30 October 2010.
In his professional career as a chess player, he stands out for being a regular player for Israel in the European Team Chess Championship and the World Team Championship. He is also involved in writing, having co-authored the book "San Luis 2005" with Igor Nor.
Born in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, Gershon immigrated to Israel with his family when he was two years old.
