Igor Vladimirovich Glek is a Russian chess grandmaster, and an International Arbiter for chess compositions since 1993. Born in Moscow on November 7, 1961, Glek learned chess at age seven and by the 1980s, became one of the strongest players in the USSR.
In the 1990s, Glek moved to Germany and represented the country in the 28th Chess Olympiad as well as in the World Team Chess Championship 1993. He played for Russia in the 31st Chess Olympiad.
In January 2004, he won the 1002-player Politiken Cup. He has won in Solingen (1990), Bad Homburg (1995), Essen (1996), Copenhagen (2003), and Stockholm Rilton Cup (2006–07, 2007–08). He continues to actively play as a representative of the Spartak Moscow chess club.
Glek, a PhD in physical and mathematical sciences, has written more than 50 publications and is also a compiler of chess problems. He's quite prominent in chess compositions and became an International Arbiter of chess compositions in 1993. In Germany, he organizes the anniversary Weltcup der Schachkomposition.
