Daniel Gormally is a British chess player, born on 4 May 1976 in Easington, England. He earned his International Master title in 1997 and was later awarded the Grandmaster title in 2005. Gormally is a regular participant in the British Chess Championship and has competed in numerous international events such as the Chess Olympiad and the World Cup.
One of Gormally's notable achievements was reaching the Championship section final in the 1997 Mind Sports Olympiad, where he finished third. He also won the 102nd British Rapidplay Chess Championships in 2004. Gormally has played for the English national team in two Chess Olympiads, in 2006 and 2008.
In August 2006, Gormally was involved in an altercation with fellow chess player Levon Aronian during the World Chess Olympiad in Turin over a suspected relationship dispute. The incident, reportedly sparked by a dance, received considerable media attention and led to Gormally's withdrawal from the event.
In addition to playing, Gormally is a prolific writer and columnist on chess. He has authored several books on the subject, including "Calculate Like a Grandmaster" and "Play Chess Like the Pros".
