Attila Groszpeter is a Hungarian chess grandmaster (GM) and coach. He was born on 23 September 1956 in Budapest, Hungary. He was awarded the International Master (IM) title in 1983 and Grandmaster (GM) title of FIDE in 1991. Groszpeter was Hungarian champion semi-finalist in 1984, 1987, 1989, and was nominated in 1992 as the best Hungarian sportsperson of the Year due to his role in winning the Chess Olympiad for the Hungarian national team.
Groszpeter represented Hungary in several international chess tournaments and team events. He won the 1991 and 1993 Reggio Emilia chess tournaments. He also had significant results in the individual Hungarian championships where he shared 1st-3rd place in 1988, shared 1st-2nd place in 1991, and was twice third in 1985 and 1986. He finished 2nd in the zonal tournament in Mamaia in 1987.
As the Hungarian national team's member, he achieved a double win in the Chess Olympiad in 1992 by finishing 1st in their fourth board and claiming overall victory. The 1st board result included an undefeated score of 6/7. Also, he won individual silver medals in 1997 and 2001 in the European Chess Championships.
