Bukhuti (Bukhynar) Ivanovich Gurgenidze (13 July 1933 – 24 May 2008) was a Georgian International Grandmaster of chess and chess composer. Gurgenidze was born in Surami, Georgia. He was awarded the International Master title in 1966 and the International Grandmaster title in 1970.

Gurgenidze won the Championship of Georgia five times (1966, 1968, 1972, 1977, and 1981). Beyond national level, he played in the Soviet Championships as well, his best results being equal fourth in 1966 and equal third in 1968. He also played in several international tournaments, winning the prize at the 1968 Kecskemét Tournament.

Gurgenidze was a well-regarded player, but was especially noted for his development of chess opening theory. The Gurgenidze Variation of the Caro–Kann Defence is named after him and is a well-known variation in chess.

He was also known for his composed chess problems and endgame studies. He was awarded the title of International Master of Chess Composition in 1980.

Gurgenidze died in Tbilisi, Georgia on 24 May 2008 and was eulogized by Zurab Azmaiparashvili, ECU President, who described him as a great chess player and composer, and a modest person. The former president also stated that his passing was a great loss for the Georgian chess family.
