Curt Hansen is a prominent Danish chess player who earned the title Grandmaster (GM) in 1985. Born on September 18, 1964, he is among Denmark's best chess players, with a myriad of achievements under his belt.

Hansen's journey in chess began at an early age, and by 16, he became an International Master (IM), which accelerated his path to becoming a Grandmaster. The World Junior Chess Championship, where he placed second in 1982, was one of his early career milestones.

He earned the title Grandmaster after his commendable performance at the Taxco 1985 Interzonal tournament. His success in this competition not only secured the GM title but also qualified him for the Candidates matches for the World Chess Championship 1987.

Hansen has participated in numerous Olympiads, representing Denmark, beginning in 1982. He also played a crucial role in leading Denmark to their victory at the 1988 Chess Olympiad in Thessaloniki.

In 1991 and 1992, Hansen participated in two GMA World Cup tournaments, where he played commendably against some of the world's top chess players. He participated in several European Team Chess Championships, and in 1997, he had the highest score at the European Club Cup.

His tournament victories include the Biel MTO in 1997, Dos Hermanas in 1998, and Isle of Man Valutronics 1998. In 2000, Hansen won the prestigious Politiken Cup, making a significant impact on the Danish and international chess scene.

His performance dropped a bit since 2002. In 2005, he left the chess scene to pursue a career in banking, but he re-emerged in 2007. Despite being less active today in the chess world, his contributions to the game over the years are noteworthy.

In addition to his successful chess career, Hansen is also an author. His book, "The Chess Mind" (Det Skaklige Sind), was published in 1998. This publication delves into his journey in the chess world, providing valuable insights into the mind-set of a competitive player.
