Lars Oskar Hauge is a Norwegian chess player who earned the title of Grandmaster (GM) in 2020. He was born on April 2, 1998 in Oslo, Norway.
Hauge started playing chess at a young age, and quickly demonstrated incredible talent. He joined the Oslo Schackselskap club, the oldest chess club in Norway, and was developed further around 2013 when he started working with the esteemed chess trainer and International Master (IM) Torbjörn Ringdal Hansen.
In 2015, he made his breakthrough when he won the Norwegian Championship at the age of 17. Additionally, he earned the title of International Master (IM) that same year.
After his performance at the 2019 Norwegian Championship, Hauge earned his first Grandmaster norm. His final two norms came at the 52nd Rilton Cup 2019–2020 and Basel Masters in January 2020. Consequently, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) awarded him the Grandmaster title by virtue of his performance.
Hauge plays for Oslo Schackselskap in the Norwegian Premier League and ESV Nickelhütte Aue in the German league.
His playstyle is described as aggressive and intuitive, with a preference for complex positions – a style that generally requires a great deal of calculation and mental elasticity. He is known for his unorthodox openings and a deep understanding of the game, despite his relatively young age.
