Daniel Hausrath is a German chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster, which he achieved on 25 November 2009. He was born on February 5, 1976 in Mönchengladbach, Germany. Hausrath learned to play chess early. At the age of ten, he took part in a simultaneous exhibition against then-reigning world chess champion Garry Kasparov.
Hausrath has participated in numerous chess competitions in Germany and internationally. In 1995, he played for the German national team at the U20 World Team Chess Championship and won a bronze medal. He was also a participant in the German single championship tournament in 2006 and 2009, and the European Individual Chess Championship 2009 and 2010.
In addition to playing, Hausrath is active as a chess coach. He worked for many years at the ‘Deutsche Schachschule’ (German Chess School) in Münster and helped to establish the university's chess teams. Hausrath is also involved in chess theory and has published several articles in the field.
He completed his doctorate in mathematics from the University of Münster, focusing on the field of Algebra. Hausrath has maintained an active affiliation with the university as a lecturer and as part of its chess society.
