Ron Henley is an American chess Grandmaster (GM), writer, and investment banker. He became a Grandmaster in 1982. During his playing career, he participated in five U.S. chess championships and represented the United States in various international competitions including winning the silver medal at the World Under-26 Team Championships in Graz, Austria in 1981.
Besides his playing career, he has written over twenty chess books and presented several instructional videos. He’s well known for writing the "Complete ...A6: The Botvinnik and Benoni Systems". He has also analyzed and presented chess training videos regarding the repertoire of World Chess Champion, Anatoly Karpov.
As a second, analyst and trainer, Henley worked with the World Championship Candidates, Anatoly Karpov from 1991-1994. He also was an organizer of grandmaster events and matches that included the Karpov-Kasparov World Championship training match which took place in New York City in 1990.
After retiring from chess, Henley moved to the field of investment banking. He specialized in the field of initial public offerings (IPOs) therefore leading a professional double life in finance and business development. He has been involved into corporate and financial planning for start-ups and firms going public.
Henley maintains his love for the game of chess. He remains active in chess as a writer, trainer and promoter.
