Herminio Herraiz Hidálgo is a Spanish chess Grandmaster and a renowned chess trainer. He was born on March 9, 1952, in Sacedón, Spain. He earned his International Master title in 1981 and was awarded the Grandmaster title in 1997 by FIDE, the international chess organization.
Herraiz Hidalgo competed in several world-class chess tournaments, including the Chess Olympiads in 1980 (on the second reserve board) and 1990 (on the third board), as well as in the World Team Chess Championship in 1989. He also played in seven European Team Chess Championships between 1980 and 1997. His tournament successes include winning the International Tournament of Melilla (Spain) in 1996 and the Arco (Italy) International Open in 1996.
In addition to his competitive career, Hidálgo has made significant contributions as a chess coach and trainer. He worked for the Spanish Chess Federation as a national coach from 1987 to 2003 and, since then, has been collaborating with the Madrid Chess Federation as a trainer. He has trained many well-known chess players, including Grandmaster Francisco Vallejo Pons and Women's World Chess Champion Zhu Chen.
His brother, Juan Manuel Herraiz Hidalgo, is also a notable chess player.
