Hoàng Thanh Trang is a Vietnamese-Hungarian chess Grandmaster celebrated for her accomplishments in various international tournaments. Born on April 25, 1980, in Hanoi, Vietnam, Hoàng is known for participating in national chess championships as a teenager before moving on to participate in, and win, international games.
She first attained international accreditation in 1998 when FIDE, the international chess federation, awarded her the WGM (Woman Grandmaster) title. In 2007, she became the 14th woman to receive the more prestigious Grandmaster title. She claims roots in both Vietnam and Hungary, having moved to Hungary when she was only 10 years old. She now represents Hungary in Chess Olympiads.
Hoàng has competed in various women's world chess championships and has represented Vietnam three times in the Chess Olympiad. Her most notably win came in 2013 when she emerged victorious in the European Individual Women's Championship. She has also won the Hungarian Women's Championship twice. At club level, Hoàng has played exceptionally well for the Hamburger SK team in Germany, as well as Cercle d'Echecs Monte Carlo, in the European Women's Club Cup.
