Julian M. Hodgson describes his life and achievements as an English chess player who became a Grandmaster in 1989. Born on 25 July 1963, Hodgson was previously a pupil at Dragon School in Oxford and went on to study at Keble College, Oxford. He started his professional chess career early and quickly rose through the ranks, winning the British Championship four times from 1991 to 1999.
Hodgson developed a reputation for aggressive and imaginative play, using unusual opening systems such as the Trompowsky Attack. His style made him a popular player to watch in tournaments, and he achieved successes in various international competitions, including Hastings and Reykjavik. Besides playing, he also has contribution in chess literature and has written books on the Trompowsky Attack.
After moving to the United States, Hodgson left professional chess and established a chess teaching company, where he is a director and lead coach.
