Carsten Høi is a Danish chess player who holds the title of International Grandmaster. He was born on 16 February 1957 in Copenhagen, Denmark. Høi is best known for his victory over former World Chess Champion Anatoly Karpov in 2003.
His career achievements include winning the Danish Championship in 1978 and the Nordic Championship in 1980. He has also represented Denmark in various international team competitions, including the Chess Olympics, European Team Chess Championships, and the Nordic Team Chess Championships.
Carsten is also an established author. In 1981, he wrote "Stormester møder amatør" (Grandmaster meets amateur) with Bent Larsen and edited the Danish chess magazine "Skakbladet".
Despite his impressive chess career, Carsten Høi has worked as a high school teacher and his commitment to chess has been part-time. He favors the Open Game as White and the Sicilian Defence and Caro-Kann Defence as Black.
