Alexander Huzman is an Ukrainian-Israeli chess Grandmaster. He was born on April 10, 1962, in Zhytomyr, Ukraine, USSR. He competed multiple times in the Israeli Chess Championship, which he won twice, once in 1998 and again in 2005.
Huzman emigrated to Israel in 1991, and in that year participated in the Chess World Cup, a knock-out tournament where he was defeated in the second round. This defeat, in combination with not being allowed at the Yurmala Tournament in 1992, led to him taking a break from chess as a profession.
In 1995, he returned to chess and started to train Boris Gelfand, a top-class chess player who has won multiple tournaments. They continue to collaborate successfully with Huzman as Gelfand's coach and second, including Gelfand's successful outing at the 2009 World Cup.
Huzman is also a FIDE Senior Trainer and he has published a book on the Pirc Defence. He continues to remain active in the world of professional chess.
