Artem Aleksandrovich Iljin is a Russian chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster (GM) since 2010. Born on 6th October 1989, he gained the title of Double Grandmaster in 2011, and FIDE (the international chess federation) declared him the 30th correspondence chess world champion in 2019.
Iljin graduated in journalism from Lomonosov Moscow State University. His interest in chess sparked early in life, and he became a Candidiate Master at the age of nine. The International Correspondence Chess Federation (ICCF) website discloses that Iljin works in the field of public relations and has written more than 15 literary works on chess.
In 2013, Iljin achieved his third and qualifying GM norm, which is the standard of performance needed to obtain the title of grandmaster, in an international tournament. In 2019, he became the correspondence chess world champion, beating seven grandmasters in his path to glory. During the 2019 World Cup, Iljin participated in the blitz event and finished 10th.
Iljin not only uses traditional methods, but also computer programs to prepare for his matches. However, he always considers player's psychology in decision-making during the game. His most remarkable games include those with grandmasters Davit Shengelia and Algimantas Butnoris.
