Ivan Ivanišević is a renowned Serbian chess player. He was born on 23 June 1977 in Zemun, formerly part of Yugoslavia and now part of Belgrade, Serbia. He earned the title of Grandmaster (GM) in 2000 from the International Chess Federation, the highest title a chess player can attain.

Ivanišević has achieved significant success throughout his chess career. He won the Serbian Chess Championship three times, in 2008, 2010, and 2011, demonstrating consistent performance at a high level. His international accomplishments include winning the Acropolis International Chess Tournament held in Greece in 2011. He convincingly clinched the title with a round to spare.

In the Chess Olympiad, Ivanišević represented Serbia four times between 2004 and 2010. Notably, he won individual bronze and silver medals in 2008 and 2010 respectively.

Furthermore, Ivanišević won the 2012 Gibraltar Chess Festival Challenger's tournament, and subsequently faced the main tournament winner, Nigel Short. In the ensuing tie-break mini-match, Ivanišević lost and consequently finished as the second-placed player.

He continued his performance, taking first place at the 2013/14 Hastings International Chess Congress. The following year, he won the 2015 Vienna Open and came second in the Barcelona tournament.

In team competitions, Ivanišević excelled as well. He represented Novi Sad Chess Club, winners of the European Club Cup in 2009. Also, his team finished as runners-up in 2001.

In addition to his playing career, Ivanišević also works as a chess trainer. The peak of his coaching career came when he became Serbia's national team head coach in 2016.
