Alojzije Janković is a Croatian chess Grandmaster. He earned the title of Grandmaster at the 36th Chess Olympiad in 2004, making him the 14th player to achieve this title in Croatia. Born on February 23, 1983, in Osijek, Croatia, he demonstrated his abilities at a very young age and consistently ranked in the top ten players of his age group worldwide during his youth.
Throughout his career, he has participated in numerous competitions, and one of his critical achievements includes winning the Croatian Chess Championship in 2013 and Zagreb Open 2021. He also represented Croatia in four Chess Olympiads in 2004, 2010, 2014, and 2018.
Janković has represented his country in various team events as well. For instance, he was part of the Croatian team that competed in the European Team Chess Championship in 2015.
Apart from his playing career, he also ventured into coaching, teaching professional chess at the Dubai Chess and Culture Club, and being coach to the UAE national team. He has also served as the Dean of the Faculty of Teacher Education at the University of Split.
Janković also authored a book titled "How to Study Chess Openings: The Guide," which elaborates on the essentials of chess for beginners and advanced players alike. Furthermore, he is an active contributor to chess magazines. He has a PhD in Kinesiology with a focus on chess education.
