Arthur Kogan is an Israeli chess Grandmaster and trainer. Born on January 29, 1974 in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, he was awarded the Grandmaster title in 1996 by the International Chess Federation (FIDE). Known for his work as a writer and a coach, Kogan has had articles published in a myriad of chess magazines, as well as a book called “The Tango Chess.”

As a chess player, Kogan has achieved numerous accolades. He became the Juniors Ukrainian champion in 1987, and in the following years, he won additional tournaments in Barcelona, Morocco, and Belgium, to name a few. Kogan has represented Israel in several international competitions, including the Chess Olympiad in 2000 and the European Team Chess Championship in 2001.

Kogan has also helped train some of the top chess players in the world, including several national champions and world champions in different age categories. Notably, he has also been involved in promoting chess in schools, particularly in the Olot area of Spain.

In 2012, he received the Botvinnik Medal from FIDE for being the Best Coach of a School Team. He is also a member of the FIDE Trainers' Commission. Despite his many achievements, Kogan seems less interested in personal glory or victory than in the development of his sport, and often emphasizes the social and educational benefits of chess.
