Rolando Kutirov is an International Chess Grandmaster of Serb-Macedonian origin. Born on September 3, 1949, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Kutirov started playing chess at a young age. He studied at the University of Buenos Aires, where he balanced his education and competitive chess playing.
Kutirov’s first major success was getting first place at the Argentine Youth Championship in 1976. He continued to achieve success in many tournaments such as the Balkan Games and Pan-American Championship. He was also a three-time Macedonian champion. He played for the country in three Chess Olympiads as well.
Throughout his career, Kutirov contributed to chess literature. He wrote several chess books, building a reputation as a strong player and mentor. Besides his activities in chess, he also worked as a doctor, balancing chess and his medical profession.
Kutirov passed away on September 3rd, 2021 after a long battle against Covid-19.
