Ottomar Ladva is an Estonian professional chess player, who obtained the title of Grandmaster in 2020. Born on June 17, 1997, in Estonia, Ladva started playing chess at a young age, and in 2013, won the U16 European Youth Chess Championship.
He gained further recognition in 2015, when he won the Estonian Chess Championship. Participating in several chess competitions around the world, Ladva has further solidified his position as a world-class chess player. Some of his notable victories include winning the Skilling Open qualifier in 2020, and the Airthings Masters qualifier, both of which are a part of the international online chess tour organized by Chess24.
In February 2021, Ladva also won the Airthings Masters knockout tournament, earning himself the second Grandmaster norm. He gained his third in the Vilnius Christmas tournament. In the same month, he went on to clinch the FIDE Grand Prix event after beating high-ranked players Alexander Grischuk and Maxim Vachier-Lagrave.
Aside from playing chess, Ladva is known to be a university student studying Law in Tallinn, while also receiving support from Kaido Kulaots's chess school.
