Lajthajm has prominent competitive experience, having participated in events like the Chess Olympiad, European Team Chess Championships, and the Mitropa Cup.
He also stands as a notable figure in the field of chess journalism. Lajthajm has authored a number of books on the subject of chess and has contributed as an editor, author, and columnist in several chess publications throughout his career. He has been the chief editor of the "Chess Federation of Vojvodina" since 2012 and has also held the position of vice president in the same federation.
Additionally, Lajthajm has made significant contributions as a trainer. He works as a FIDE Senior Trainer and has functioned as a coach for the National Teams of Yugoslavia and Serbia at competitions like the Chess Olympiads and the World Team Championships. He went on to win four team medals and one individual medal at these competitions.
