Levente Lengyel is a chess player from Hungary who was granted the title of Grandmaster in 1964. He was born on 13th June 1933 in Budapest. Lengyel primarily took part in local Hungarian tournaments and international competitions. He represented Hungary multiple times in the Chess Olympiads, and was on the team that won the gold medal in the 1970 Chess Olympiad.
In individual competitions, Lengyel had many notable accomplishments including winning the Hungarian Chess championship in 1962 and 1967, and finishing in second place in 1955 and 1960. He won the Mar del Plata tournament in 1964, the traditional Hoogovens tournament in 1964, and Lloyds Bank tournament in 1981. Lengyel also participated in four Interzonal tournaments for the World Chess Championship, but never achieved the Candidates level.
After retiring from playing, Lengyel remained active in chess as a trainer. Lengyel passed away on 18 October 2019.
