Konstantin Lerner is a Ukrainian chess Grandmaster (GM) born September 28, 1950. He earned the title of International Master in 1980 and became a GM in 1986. At the 1984 USSR Chess Championship, he achieved 3rd-4th place, and in 1986 he won the Championship of Ukraine.
Between 1988 and 2001, Lerner had many victories. He won at Cappelle-la-Grande 1988, Altensteig 1988, Havířov 1990, and Shaar 2000. In 1992 in Lviv, Lerner shared first place with Vasily Ivanchuk. In 1998, he won the World Veterans Championship at Grieskirchen, being the youngest participant at 48 years old. Finally, he won at Herzliya 2001.
Additionally, Lerner is a chess author, writing the chapter on the King’s Indian Defence in Informant’s Encyclopedia of Chess Openings. He also returned to active chess in 2008 in Michigan, playing chess with his school's students.
