Igor Alexandrovich Lysyj, born December 01, 1987 in Yekaterinburg, is a Russian chess player who holds the title of Grandmaster. He is known for winning the Russian Chess Championships in 2014, defeating one of the best players in the world, Ian Nepomniachtchi, in the final round.
Lysyj received his first notable accolade in 2007 when he achieved the grandmaster title. Then, at the World Chess Championships in 2009, he achieved a solid result with 8/13, reaching the fifth round when he was eliminated by Peter Svidler. He also helped the Russian team secure a silver medal in the World Team Chess Championship in 2011.
Igor Lysyj has also made an impact in the field of chess theory, particularly with regards to the Ruy-Lopez opening, having co-authored a book titled "Grandmaster Repertoire 13: The Open Spanish". The book was published in 2013, focusing on a deep analysis of the complex Open Spanish line.
