Morteza Mahjoob is an Iranian Chess Grandmaster, renowned for his significant contributions to the game of chess, both as a player and coach. Born on 14 March 1980 in Tehran, Iran, he became the second Grandmaster in the Iranian chess history in 2006, following a remarkable state of play.
Mahjoob became interested in chess at a young age and progressed quickly in the game. He won the Iranian chess championship twice, consecutively in 2007 and 2008. In 2009, he simultaneously played against 500 players making a world record and winning 397 games, drawing 90 and losing 13.
Mahjoob has contributed significantly to Iranian chess as a coach. He trained many Iranian world youth champions including Parham Maghsoodloo, the world junior chess champion in 2018. He served as coach of the women's national chess team from 2005 to 2008 and the Director of the national youth chess team from 2010 to 2016.
In addition to his prolific chess career, Mahjoob studied industrial engineering at the Islamic Azad University South Tehran Branch and later pursued a master's degree in Executive Management (Sports).
