Victor Mikhalevski is an Israeli chess grandmaster of Belarusian origin, who was bestowed with the title of grandmaster by the International Chess Federation (FIDE) in 1996. Mikhalevski was born in Gomel, Soviet Union (present-day Belarus) on July 8, 1972. His family moved to Israel in 1991.
As a chess player, Mikhalevski has played for the Israeli national team several times in the World Chess Olympiads and European Team Chess Championships, and in 2005, he helped the team win the silver medal at the World Team Chess Championship. Mikhalevski has had wins over several prominent chess players, such as Hikaru Nakamura, Baadur Jobava and Pentala Harikrishna.
One of his significant achievements was winning the 31st Canadian Open Chess Championship in Kapuskasing, Ontario in July 2014. He has also placed second in the 2002 Israeli Chess Championship and has gained shared first place in the 2009/10 Rilton Cup in Stockholm.
