Gilberto Milos is a Brazilian chess Grandmaster and one of the strongest South American players from the late 20th century till the mid-21st century. Born on October 30, 1963, he became a Grandmaster in 1988. Milos also competed in six Chess Olympiads on the Brazilian team from 1980–2000 and was the South American champion twice, in 1987 and 1991.


He won the Brazilian championship six times from 1984–1995, and came in third in the 1989 Pan American Championship, won by Garry Kasparov. Furthermore, he topped the São Paulo 2001 tournament on points, ahead of a strong field of players.


In 2000, Milos was the top-rated player in Latin America. He is also known for his work in chess education, particularly through his involvement with the Mitra Chess Club in São Paulo. He has been involved in promoting chess in schools across Brazil and has proposed chess as an educational tool to the Brazilian government.


In 2007, he played in the FIDE World Cup in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, but was knocked out by Vladimir Malakhov in the first round.
