Karel Mokrý is a Czech chess grandmaster who was born on 4 December 1959 in Prague. Mokrý's most significant achievement was becoming a grandmaster of chess in 1984. He has represented the Czech Republic in numerous international chess events, particularly the Chess Olympiads in 1990 and 2000. In 1991 he won the championship of Czechoslovakia.
Mokrý has a notable reputation as a chess coach. He has served his role as a coach in different countries such as Turkey, Slovakia, and in his homeland, the Czech Republic. His chess tutorials are particularly favored, which Mokrý broadcasts regularly on Czech Television. He has also used his coaching skills in the commercial sphere, partnering with renowned Czech software companies to develop popular chess tutorials and software.
In addition to his grandmaster status, Mokrý is also a feared correspondence chess competitor. Mokrý took second place at the World Championship XIV (2007–2012) and in August 2012, he became an International Grandmaster of Correspondence Chess.
