Friso Nijboer is a Dutch chess grandmaster and author. Born on May 26, 1965 in Amsterdam, he earned the FIDE International Master title in 1986 and became a grandmaster in 1993. Nijboer has represented his home country several times in the Chess Olympiad tournaments of the 1990s and the 2000s.


Throughout his career, Nijboer has won numerous international tournaments such as Hoogeveen 1987, Wijk aan Zee (B) 1989 and 1994, and the Arco Open in 2008. He has also won the Dutch Chess Championship twice - in 1995 and 2008.


In 2007, Nijboer participated in the World Cup Chess in Khanty-Mansiysk, but was eliminated in the first round.


In addition to his competitive career, Nijboer is also a prolific author and chess analyst. He has written several books about chess and contributed to the chess-analysis software company ChessBase.


Some of his notable published works include "Tactics in the Chess Opening" series with Contributions by Geert van der Stricht and "The Chess Combat Simulator" with International Master Herman Grooten.



Nijboer is married with two children and resides in Amsterdam.
