Vladimir Petkov is a notable Bulgarian chess player best known for his title of International Grandmaster (IG), which he earned in 2006. Born on November 27, 1971, Petkov has claimed numerous major victories throughout his chess career.
Petkov started showing an interest in chess as a young boy, working his way up the ranks of local and national tournaments until he achieved his national Master title. After becoming a FIDE Master, he achieved the title of International Master (IM) in 2001. After five more years of competing, he was awarded the title of IG.
Throughout his career, Petkov has achieved recognition for his outstanding performance in several international competitions. For instance, in 2003 he won the Open Bulgarian Championship in Plovdiv. He then shockingly defeated GM-elect Boban Bogosavljevic at the Paris Championships in 2005, where he finished second after Francois Fargere.
In addition to his competitive chess career, Petkov is also a renowned chess coach. He has tutored many promising chess players, including Boris Chatalbashev, who later went on to become a grandmaster, as well as numerous other players who achieved the title of Women's International Master.
Vladimir Petkov is also known for his academic background. He has a Bachelor's degree in Physical Education and Sports and a Master's degree in Chess Coaching.
