Milko Popchev is a Bulgarian chess International Master and Grandmaster of Correspondence Chess. He was born on November 14, 1964 in Dobrich. In the field of correspondence chess, he represented his country first in the 8th Correspondence Chess Olympiad, where his exceptional performance earned him the title of International Master. He accomplished even greater success in the next Olympiad (9th Correspondence Chess Olympiad Preliminaries) where he achieved his Grandmaster title.
In terms of contributions to the game, he’s written two books focused on strategy. The first, "Modern Chess Preparation," is about getting ready for a game by considering the mental, psychological, and physical aspects players should account for, plus preparatory theory and planning. The second book, "Secrets of Positional Play," co-authored with Valeri Lilov, suggests a 4-step method of positional evaluation that aims to improve overall performance.
