Borki Predojević is a well-known Bosnian chess grandmaster. Born on April 6, 1987, in Teslić, Bosnia and Herzegovina, he started gaining attention in the chess world from a very young age. He snagged the title of European champion for his age group in 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000.
In 2003, at 16 years old, Predojević managed to achieve the highly coveted title of grandmaster, which is often seen as the highest honour in the world of chess. In earning this title, he became the youngest grandmaster in the world. He also took part in the World Junior Chess Championship that year and finished in ninth place.
Predojević's talent in the game is further illustrated by his many other notable achievements. He successfully represented Bosnia and Herzegovina in two Chess Olympiads, which took place in 2004 and 2006. He also won the Bosnian Championship in 2005. Two years later, in 2007, he earned gold at "Mitropa Cup" (a team chess championship in Europe).
In 2009, Predojević's career saw another significant milestone when he competed against the world-renowned chess player, Anatoly Karpov. Although he lost the match, it was a testament to Predojević's extraordinary talent and skill.
Notably, he also won the Friuli Open in Italy in 2010, took first place in the International Open in Benasque in 2011, and bested Magnus Carlsen, world champion, in the 2013 Chess World Cup.
His contributions to the game are not limited to his personal triumphs as a player but extend to his roles as a coach. He coached the Norwegian team during the World Team Chess Championship in 2017.
