Stojan Puc is a renowned Slovenian chess Grandmaster who went on to become the Slovenian Chess Champion in 1978 and later held the title of International Master in 1973. Before his chess career took off, Puc had also been a successful table tennis player—making it to Slovenia's national championship and winning third place in doubles.


For many years, Puc was a key member of the national team for Slovenia, leading the team to participate in several Chess Olympiads (a biennial chess tournament between national teams from several countries). Notably, he led the Slovenian team at the 28th Chess Olympiad, held in Thessaloniki, Greece in 1988.


He played in many international chess competitions where he clinched a victory in an open tournament held in 1983 in Vrnjacka Banja, Serbia. Later in 1994, he earned the title of first board in Italy playing for the Circolo Scacchistico Cesenatico.


Beyond his chess career, Puc is also involved in teaching and coaching chess enthusiasts of the next generation. In 1988, he published the book "Moj sistem za uspeh" ("My System of Success"😉 sharing his chess strategies and his viewpoints on the game, making significant contributions to chess literature.


Puc was awarded the National Order of Merit of the Italian Republic by the President of the Republic for his contribution in promoting and bringing Italian chess to the fore. Today, he is appreciated and admired for his profound influence on many generations of chess players and is a revered figure in the chess circles of Slovenia and Italy. He remains an active contributor and participant in chess tournaments up to the present day.
