Shukhrat Safin (born June 6, 1980) is a Russian chess Grandmaster (GM), the highest title a chess player can attain. He was born in Tashkent, the capital city of Uzbekistan and learnt to play chess when he was young.
In his early career, he achieved several major successes, including winning the Moscow region championship in 2002, the Russian national chess championship in rapid chess in the same year, and the highest league of the Russian championship in 2003.
In 2004, after winning the Chess competition of the Sports Association "Dynamo", Safin was awarded the title of Grandmaster of the International Chess Federation (FIDE).
Since 2007, he has been working as a coach, training players of various levels. Notable among his students are International Master Ekaterina Kovalevskaya, WGM Natalia Pogonina, and WGM Olga Girya.
