Gennadij Sagalchik is a renowned American chess Grandmaster and an International FIDE Trainer. He was born on April 28, 1962 in Minsk, the capital city of Belarus. Starting chess at a tender age, Sagalchik quickly rose to prominence in the field and became the first ever student to win the 'gold medal' at the World Chess Olympiad in 1984. Later, he secured his International Master title in 1985 and finally became a grandmaster in 1995.


He made his move to the United States in 1991 and began to demonstrate his expertise in numerous tournaments. Sagalchik achieved a major milestone in his career by winning the Philadelphia World Open Chess Championship in 1993. Furthermore, he represented the United States in international events like the 1996 Chess Olympiad.


Sagalchik's contribution extends beyond his own chess playing to training and mentorship. As an International FIDE Trainer, he has coached many successful American Chess champions including Julia Shiber, Alex Lenderman, and Grandmaster Aleksandr Lenderman.


He is married to WIM Esther Epstein and they both provide chess instructions, sharing their expertise and passion for the game, through group and private lessons and in various chess camps. Lastly, he and his wife offer chess training and coordinate tournaments through their company Chess Eye.
