Yuri Anatolyevich Shabanov is a renowned Russian Chess Grandmaster. He was born on August 21, 1965 and his mastery of the game earned him the Grandmaster title in 2003. Shabanov focuses almost exclusively on playing chess, rarely taking on writing or coaching roles.
Shabanov's achievements are noteworthy in the field of chess. He emerged as the winner at the international tournament held in Kostroma in 1991. His success continued at the Moscow "Student Chess House" in 1992. He won the Championship of Kazakhstan held in Almaty in 1993 and 1997. He also triumphed in the semi-final of the Championship of Russia in Saratov in 2003.
Shabanov has been competing regularly in team competitions. He took part in the Russian Team Championship in 1997 and from 1999 to 2003 where his team always made it to the top five. He also participated in the French Team Championship from 2002 to 2008 and was a team member of the "Clichy Echecs 92" which won the championship twice in 2004 and 2005.
Despite spending most of his years in Russia and Kazakhstan, Shabanov relocated to France in 2002. Since then, he has been primarily competing in tournaments held in France.
