Ruslan Albertovich Shcherbakov is a Russian Chess Grandmaster who was born on May 19, 1969 in Moscow. He achieved his Grandmaster (GM) title in 1992, International Master (IM) title in 1986, and FIDE Master (FM) title in 1983. He has made significant contributions in the field of chess both as a player and a trainer.


As a player, Shcherbakov has competed in multiple championships, team competitions, and large-scale public games. He was the Moscow Champion in 1996 and competed in two USSR Championships in 1990 and 1991. He played for the Russian national team in the European Team Chess Championship in 1992 and in the Chess Olympiad in 1994. Shcherbakov also participated in the Chess World Cup in 2000.


As a trainer, Shcherbakov has worked with several famous chess players and teams. From 1999 to 2004, he was the trainer for chess grandmaster Vladimir Kramnik, who won the World Chess Championship in 2000. Besides, he worked as the coach of the national women's team of China from 2004 to 2005, which won the World Team Chess Championship in 2007. He was also the coach of the Russian women's national team from 2010 to 2011.


Notably, he was able to significantly contribute to the world of chess literature as well. He has written several books, that include detailed analysis of particular games and general strategies of chess. He also co-authored the book "Technique in Chess: A Grandmaster Guide. 1000 positions for work at the board".
