Chess Master Biography
Veniamin Vasilyevitch Shtyrenkov was a Soviet and Russian chess player known as the Grandmaster of the Russian Chess Federation (RCC). He was born on July 7, 1940 in Astrakhan, Russia, and died on April 6, 2011 in Moscow.
Despite beginning his chess career relatively late, Shtyrenkov achieved notable success. He won the Astrakhan Regional Championship in 1967, became a master a year later, and was then awarded the title of National Master of Sports in 1974.
Throughout his career, Shtyrenkov played in several championships, including the RSFSR Championship and the championship of the Volga Region. He won several bronze and silver medals in these competitions, as well as the Rapid Chess Championship in Moscow in 2001. He participated in more than 30 Russian championship finals altogether.
Shtyrenkov was married to Olga Shtyrenkova, who was also a chess player and a women's grandmaster. Later in life, he battled an illness for many years, eventually leading to his death. The legacy he left behind in chess is significant, despite starting his career later than most.
