Roman Slobodjan is a chess grandmaster who was born in Almaty, Kazakhstan on February 10, 1975. He currently lives in Hamburg, Germany. He attained his International Master and FIDE Trainer titles in 1994, and his grandmaster title in 2001.
His chess career started promisingly. He won the USSR Juniors Championship in 1989 and the European Junior Championship in 1995. Additionally, he gained success on the international level by winning the Reykjavik Open in 2001.
Slobodjan has played a significant role in several team events in his career as well. As a player, he has been a major contributor to the German team in the European Club Cup and has won multiple Bundesliga championships.
Besides being an active player, Slobodjan also donates his time and skill to teaching chess. He has coached the German national youth team and served as a trainer for the German chess federation. His students have won both German and European championships.
