Evgeniy Solozhenkin is a Russian chess Grandmaster and coach. Born on January 31, 1966 in Leningrad, Soviet Union, he became an International Master in 1990 and became a Grandmaster in 1993. He has achieved several notable successes in his career, winning the St. Petersburg championship six times (1990, 1998, 2000–2002, 2009), and the Russian team championship with St. Petersburg (1998, 1999, 2001). Solozhenkin has also won many open tournaments in Western Europe and in the United States.
Solozhenkin has provided significant contributions to training other chess players, including women's grandmaster Anastasia Travkina and his own daughter, Daria Solozhenkina. He has also written books about chess, contributing to notable contemporary literature in his field.
Despite his accomplishments, Solozhenkin's career has not been without controversy. In 2017, he and his daughter were accused of cheating in a chess match. The allegations were investigated by the FIDE Ethics Commission, who found him not guilty due to insufficient evidence.
