Maxim Sorokin was a notable chess grandmaster from Russia. Born on January 22, 1968, Sorokin started playing chess professionally in 1986. He then became an International Master (IM) in 1990, and a Grandmaster (GM) in 1992. He had many achievements throughout his career, such as representing Russia in multiple Chess Olympiads, winning the championship of Argentina in 2006, and playing at the FIDE World Chess Championship 2004 and 2006. He also participated in internet-based tournaments under the pseudonym "Tigran Petrosian."
Apart from playing chess, Sorokin also held important roles in the world of chess. He trained his son, Ivan Sorokin, who also became a famous chess player, and worked as a coach for several strong players including Grandmaster Sergey Karjakin.
Sorokin was known for his aggressive playing style. He was a dynamic player who often led successful attacks against his opponents. On July 30, 2007, Sorokin suffered a fatal heart attack. He was only 39 years old.
