Hugo Spangenberg highlights his career and achievements as an Argentine chess Grandmaster. Spangenberg was born on February 13, 1975, in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He became an International Master in 1993 and a Grandmaster in 1996.
He showed notable success in several tournaments over the years. In 1996, he won the Mar del Plata tournament and shared first in the American Continental Championship. In 1997, after sharing first place at an International Tournament in Buenos Aires, he got stunned at the Zonal tournament in Córdoba.
In 1999, he scored one of his best career results when he shared the first place at the extremely strong open tournament at Cappelle-la-Grande.
Spangenberg has also participated in several Chess Olympiads, representing Argentina. He took part for his native country in the 33rd Chess Olympiad, which took place in Elista in 1998.
He stopped playing professionally in 2002, but resumed his competitive career in 2008.
Besides chess, Spangenberg is interested in mathematical logic and has studied Philosophy at the University of Buenos Aires.
