Wouter Spoelman (born 5 June 1990, in The Hague) is a Dutch chess grandmaster and mathematics graduate.
Early Life:
Spoelman was born in 1990 and first began to make his name in the chess world in the mid-2000s while he was still a teenager. He demonstrated his talent early on through several significant achievements in both national and international junior chess tournaments.
Career:
In 2007, Spoelman obtained title of International Master at age of 16 and later the Grandmaster title in 2009. He dominated the Junior Championship of the Netherlands three times from 2005 to 2007.
He achieved a couple of representative team successes, including leading the Dutch team to victory in the 2009 European Youth Team Championship. His individual achievements include winning the Open Dutch Championship in 2011 and tying for first place in the Hogeschool Zeeland tournament in 2013.
Personal life:
In addition to his chess career, Spoelman pursued his academic path and graduated in mathematics. Spoelman is known not only for his chess achievements, but also for his academic endeavors.
