Jan Michael Sprenger is a German chess Grandmaster and writer. He was born on August 14, 1984 in Aachen, Germany. He is currently a research associate and a teacher at the University of Cologne's Department of Philosophy.
Sprenger's affinity for chess began during his school years and he has since made significant achievements in the field. His first international appearance was in 2002 at the U18 Chess World Championship in Greece. In 2003, he was awarded with the title of International Master and then became a Grandmaster in 2009, after winning the German Individual Championship.
Sprenger was also active in the German Chess Bundesliga, specifically in the 2007/08 season, where he played for the Dortmund-based Hansa. He has also played in team competitions in the Netherlands, Switzerland and Belgium.
